She was predeceased by: her parents, Rupert G. Thacker and N. Juanita Jones Thacker. She is survived by: her husband John I. Murphy, Sr.; her sons, John, Jr. (Brenda) and Jay (Amy); her granddaughters, Jessica and Cassie Murphy; and her siblings, Kenneth Thacker, Bob Thacker (Sue), Allan Thacker (Kim), Jeanie Duncan, Louise Carpenter, Dolores McArthur, Betty Overfelt and Nancy Secrist (David). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory-Lynchburg (220 Breezewood Dr, Lynchburg, VA 24502).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Salvation Army.
