He was predeceased by: his father James Fred Miller; his wife Ruth Marye Miller; his mother Flora Mae Lister Miller (Lister); his siblings, James Fred Miller Jr., Thomas Pinckney Miller (Eunice) and Marianna Miller; and his granddaughter Mary Miller.

He is survived by: his children, Maureen Gallagher-McLeod (Alex), Sharon Brown (Tom), Kellie Alpaugh (Charles), Melissa George (Nick), Patricia "Trish" Brebenel (Mari) and James Miller (Kathy). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to DementiaMatters at PO Box C, White Post, VA 22663.
