He was predeceased by: his parents, Randolph Potts Lightner and Helen Kennedy Lightner; and his sister Dorothy Garner. He is survived by: his wife Minnie Lightner; his son John Clay Blankenship (Colleen); his grandsons, Christopher Murphy Blankenship (Sara Mari) and John Brock Blankenship; and his nephews, Kenneth Garner, Denny Garner and Jeff Garner.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Covenant Funeral Service - Fredericksburg (10830 Patriot Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22408). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fredericksburg Police Department.
