She was predeceased by: her parents, John Steele and Evelyn Laing Steele; and her sister Libby Bolton. She is survived by: her husband Gene Mathews; her former husband Jim Shifflett; her children, Jodi Deck (Bill) of Stephens City, Jeff Mathews (Michele) of Lynchburg and Jackie North (Robert) of Front Royal; her brother Sonny Steele (Barb) of Ripley, Ohio; her grandchildren, Nathan Deck (Virginia) of Apple Valley, Wyatt Deck, Emily Catron, Patrick North, Taylor Miklovic, Courtney Saunders and Sue Gibbs; and her great grandchildren, Claire, Cora Catron, Davis, Ellis North, Ellison Miklovic, Campbell Saunders, Luna and Paisley Gibbs.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Front Royal United Methodist Church (1 W Main St, Front Royal, VA 22630).
