He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Smith Knave and Agnes Sprouse Dawson; and his son Walter "Chip" Knave, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Helen M. Knave; his children, Michael "Mike" Knave and Jeanie Deem-Tharpe; his sisters, Eleanor Clarke and Bessie Hawes; and his grandsons, Sean Deem and Brandon "Drew" Deem.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the family care of Maddox Funeral Home.
