He is survived by : his son Derek; his daughter-in-law Ashley Rose of Galax, Virginia; his stepmother Van Perry; his sister Teresa; his brother-in-law Jerry Hughes of Pulaski, Virginia; and his former life partner Beate Kunas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
