He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilmer Wilson and Amanda Primm Carpenter; and his sister Barbara Jean Carpenter Jett. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Wright Carpenter of Galax; his children, Haley Morgan Carpenter and Roger Tyler Carpenter of Washington, D. C.; and his sister Christine Carpenter Beck of Hillsville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, August 27th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home (1035 N Main St, Hillsville, VA 24343). A funeral service was held on Friday, August 28th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel (1035 N Main St, Hillsville, VA 24343).
