It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Richard Curtis Gillenwater of Gate City, Virginia, who passed away on October 19, 2025, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Cossie Gillenwater and Anne May McConnell; his former wife Janice Dezarn Gillenwater; his daughter Michelle Lynn Gillenwater; his sister Myralin "Nickie" Trayer (David); Janice Dezarn Gillenwater.
He is survived by: his wife Lois Hewa; his daughter Kristy Nichols (Chip); his granddaughters, Ansley and Abigail Nichols; and his sister June Mott (Dennis). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Midway Memorial Methodist Church (5532 Veterans Memorial Hwy, Gate City, VA 24251). A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, Richard and the family request that donations be made to Midway Memorial Methodist Church.
