He was predeceased by : his parents, David Harrison and Louise Castoral Hotaling; his son William Scott Hotaling; his sister Jean Hotaling Frantz; and his grandson Joseph Robert Hotaling.

He is survived by : his children, Charles David Hotaling, Jr. (Donna) and Dorothy Hotaling Snyder (Gerald); and his sisters, Joni Hotaling Archibald and Betsy Hotaling Steinman. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
