He was predeceased by: his parents, Malcolm Pollard McConnell Jr. and Louise Atwood White McConnell; his uncles, David F. White Jr. and Garnett L. White; and his nephew John D. Ratliff Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Virginia E. McConnell; his children, Malcolm P. McConnell IV and Vallie E. Swingle; his children-in-law, Alison Walter and Christopher Swingle; his grandchildren, Fiona, Ellie Walter McConnell and Baby Swingle; his sisters, Susan and Nancy McConnell; his brother-in-law Jim Marias; and his nephews, Nathan and Alex Ratliff.
