With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Lavon Marie Rankin McDonaldson of Grottoes, Virginia, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Lavon left this world on March 2, 2026 at the age of 81, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, James Rankin, Sr. and Myrtle Murray (Raynes); her husband Leroy W. McDonaldson; her siblings, Kathleen Morris, Charleen Shifflett, Geneva McDonaldson, Anna Mae Lam, Prentice "Bunk", Alvin, James Jr. and Dallas "Dot" Rankin; and her great great grandchild Kinley Rose Jerrells.
She is survived by: her daughters, Patricia Hunsaker (Chris), Alisa Randolph (Billy), Tina McDonaldson (Jeff), Sharon Simmons (Ricky) and Karen Knott (Jeff); her grandchildren, Dawn Stroppel (Mike), Candi Jerrells (Denny), English Knott, Bryan Randolph, EJ Thompson, Chelsea Thompson (Cory), Natasha Bagwell (Nick), Brittany Knott (Aron), Josh Simmons, Aliyah Clem (Cam) and Xion Knott; her sister-in-law Ethel "Nia" Cook; her pet Missy; and her caregivers, Alisa, Sharon, Karen, Dawn, Candi, Tasha, Aliyah, Riley, Brittany, Gaven, Brooke and Lisa Dean. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service (201 Dogwood Ave, Grottoes, VA 24441). A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 6th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grottoes Rescue Squad, and/or First Choice Hospice.
