He is survived by: his mother Kathleen Merlene; his children, Joey Merlene (Crystal) of Little Elm, TX, Joshua Merlene (Allison) of Pilot Point, TX and Rachel Merlene (Chris O'Neil) of Wake Forest, NC; his grandchildren, Benito, Leonardo, Luke, Greyson, Nevaeh, Norah and Liam; and his brothers, David Merlene (Leslie) of Frisco, TX, Mark Merlene (Jenn) of Plano, TX and John Merlene (Cheri) of Highland Village, TX..

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Powell Funeral Home (1603 Wilborn Ave, South Boston, VA 24592). A reception will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
