He was predeceased by: his parents, Reverend John Merritt and Edith Merritt; and his wife Cynthia Merritt. He is survived by: his children, Vickie Harrison of Hampton, VA, Johnny Merritt Jr. (Jackie) of Newport New, VA, Marcus Merritt (Denise) of Caseyville, IL, Alexis Merritt of Hampton, VA and Jeremy Merritt (Pamela) of Waldorf, MD.. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
