Dorothy Lightner (Rexrode) Misner Obituary
We announce the death of Dorothy Lightner (Rexrode) Misner of Harrisonburg, Virginia, who passed away on October 15, 2026, at the age of 92. Dorothy will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Lloyd R. Rexrode and Beulah M. Rexrode (Arbogast); her husband Charles "Charlie" B. Misner; her son-in-law Edwin Hottel; and her siblings, Brooks, Jimmy, Lloyd R. Rexrode, Jr. and Katherine Folks.
She is survived by: her children, John G. Lightner, III (Yvette) of Ohio, Susan "Sue" Hottel of Harrisonburg and Tommy Lightner (Cookie) of Lacey Spring; her grandchildren, Shanna Mechiche Alami (Amine) and John G. Lightner, IV (Julie); her great grandchildren, Leila, Elias Mechiche Alami, John V, Jenna Lightner, H. G. Smith, III (Jessica), Jackson Brown (Randie) and Jenna Martin (Jeffrey); her great great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Matthew Smith, James, Parker Brown and Cade Martin; her sister Norma Jean Echard; and her sisters-in-law, Gail, Doris and Jane Rexrode. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 9:00 AM at the Oaklawn Memory Gardens (1921 Shutterlee Mill Rd, Staunton, VA 24401). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Hope United Methodist Church (1723 Port Republic Rd, Harrisonburg, VA 22801).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VMRC Foundation, Compassion Fund, 1501 Virginia Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
