He was predeceased by: his father Minor Grover; his brother Minor "Dusty" Rhodes, Jr.; and his grandson Matthew Scott Andes. He is survived by: his wife Anne Elaine Suter Rhodes; his children, Lori Andes Copley of Bridgewater, Lisa Kay Wine (Harry) of New Market and James "Jim" Rhodes Jr. of McLean, VA; his sister Charlotte "Peggy" Spangler; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth "Liz" Wine and Zach Wine. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
