He was predeceased by: his son Erik Albert "Albie" Torkelson; and his parents, Betty Kirsch Torkelson and Dr. Leif Oscar Torkelson. He is survived by: his daughter Tara Torkelson; his granddaughter Elizabeth Roe of Bridgewater; the mother of his children Tammy Torkelson of Bridgewater; his sister-in-law Karen Cupp (Gayle) of Harrisonburg; and his siblings, Kirstann Edwards (Tim) of New Castle, Kari Torkelson of Stanley, Inger Knicely (Chris) of Briery Branch, Kirk Torkelson (Kathy) of Timberville and Kai Torkelson (Beth) of Mount Crawford. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Kyger Funeral Home - Harrisonburg (3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, VA 22801).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Area 4.
