He was predeceased by: his parents, Reno E. Stees and Agnes Stees (Knauss); his wife Linda Margaret Bentsel; and his sister Dolores Quinn. He is survived by: his children, Angela L. Halkias (Telemachus (Telly)) of Bennington, VT, Richard L. Stees, Jr. (Diane) of Cocoa Beach, FL and Kevin J. Stees (Rhonda) of Harrisonburg; his grandchildren, Jason Halkias, Ryan Stees (Mary), Brandon Stees, Dana Stees, Evan Stees and Anna Stees; his great grandchild Leah Stees; and his siblings, Galen Stees of Lewistown, PA, Alice Knepp of Colorado Springs, CO and Pamela Dean of Melbourne, FL. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church (281 E Market St, Harrisonburg, VA 22801).
