He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard I., Jr. and Nell Dover Valentine; his stepmother Mary Whitaker; and his siblings, Frances Gentry and Alfred "Butch" Whitaker.
He is survived by: his wife Angela Cimino Valentine; his sons, Michael, Nicholas (Megan) and Matthew (Blair); his siblings, Mary Kathryne Murray and James Stuart Whitaker (Bonnie); his granddaughters, Libby, Avery and Annie; his niece Susan Gentry Wood; and his pet Lola Jane. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
