She was predeceased by: her parents, John Griffin and Elva Victoria Griffin; her husbands, Burlie Melton and Ivan Bowman; her children, Susan Edwards and Johnnie Melton; her granddaughter Nilsa York; and her siblings, Helena Sheehan, Alfred Griffin, Harbert Griffin, Howard Griffin and Ray Griffin.

She is survived by: her children, Burley "Wayne" Melton, Billy, Dana Melton and Teresa; her son-in-law Rock York; her stepchildren, Andy Bowman and Ginger Bowman; her brother Junior (Carol Griffin); her granddaughters, Leigh Anne Kyle, Adanna York, Deana Burcham and Samantha Dolinger; and her great grandchildren, Landon Harmon, Abigail York, Jace Dolinger, Jordan Kyle, Peyton Burcham, Lexi Carter, Sadie Dolinger, Alyssa Carter-York and Averi Dolinger. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Shiloh Global Methodist Church (2069 Airport Rd, Hillsville, VA 24343). A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 at the Shiloh Cemetery (67 Shiloh Rd, Hillsville, VA 24343).
