He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Martin and Margaret Bowman Thompson. He is survived by: his children, Sheldon Lee Thompson (Pamela) of Fulks Run, Suzette Lynn Thompson of Hinton and Shawn Landon Thompson (Kristina) of Grottoes; his siblings, Doris Carpenter and Carroll Thompson; and his grandchildren, Robert Grogg, Justin Thompson, Sarah Thompson, Elizabeth Curry and Tommy Curry. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
