He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Lee Bowling and Eleanor Akers Bowling; his wife Gladys Arthur Bowling; and his children, Linda Laney (Jim Laney, Sr.) and Larry Bowling.
He is survived by: his children, Tamara Adams (Bart) of Altavista and Terry Bowling (Sue) of Hurt; his siblings, Richard Bowling of Chatham and Doris Clark (Skippy) of Vinton; and his grandchildren, Ashley Moreland (Jeremy), Amber Reid (David), Joshua Bowling (Ashley), Jesse Bowling (Bekah), Wayne Shortt III, Dylan Shortt, Jim Laney, Jr. (Mary Beth), Jennifer Fogle (Jace) and Jodi Dowdy. He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to New Prospect Baptist Church, P.O. Box 547 Hurt, VA 24563.
