He was predeceased by : his father Carl F. Flora Houck Lane; his stepfather Chester Smith; and his brother Edgar Lane. He is survived by : his wife Barbara Lovill Lane of Galax, Virginia; his children, Carl Lane of Galax, Virginia, Charles Lane of Galax, Virginia, Peggy Lane (Jeff Smith) and Ginger (Bobby Gilbert); his sister Ruby Roberts of Independence, Virginia; and his grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith, Jr., Amber Smith and Gabriel Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
