It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Herbert Ray Halsey of Independence, Virginia, who passed away on February 21, 2023, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Amos Hathaway and Drucy Ann Dowell Halsey; his wife Nancy Campbell; his former life partner Nancy Halsey; and his brothers, James, Randy Halsey and Fred Halsey.

He is survived by : his children, Derek Halsey of Gold Hill, Elizabeth (Jason Jones), Ginger Halsey of Independence and John Halsey (Amber Clodfelter); his stepdaughter Sharon (Barry Shupe); his brother Mack (Barbara Halsey); his grandchildren, Isaac Jones, Canaan Jones and Ruth Joines; his siblings-in-law, Doug (Debbie Arnold), Vanessa Baumgardner of Wytheville, VA and Donna Halsey of Independence, VA; his mother-in-law Kathleen Arnold of Wytheville, VA; and his close friend Dr. Charles Quarles. He is also survived by Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
