He was predeceased by: his parents, Lynn Sturdivant and Alla Rose Wingate Sturdivant; his wife Virginia Louise Sturdivant; his siblings, Dewey, Fred, Thomas, Bessie, Ruth, Betty, Curtis and Dorothy; and his stepdaughter Mary Rutherford Dolinger.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Kristy Groseclose (Lee) of Pulaski, VA, Amanda Hammond (Marie Puccio) of Kernersville, NC, Allen Rutherford (Karen) of Independence, VA and Angel Weddle (Keith) of Marion, VA.; his great grandchildren, Ruger Groseclose, Kaitlyn Rutherford, Lane Rutherford, Addison Weddle, Samuel Weddle, McKayla Weddle and Elijah Weddle; his nephew James Michael Sturdivant of Maryland; his brother-in-law Bill Snyder (Audrey Kerr) of Ohio; his stepson Harvey Rutherford of Independence; his stepson-in-law Bobby Dolinger of Independence; his great grandchild Kiley; and his caregiver Hunter Neice. He is also survived by his father came rushing home one day and telling his mother to put the horses.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home (44 Dan Walters Dr, Independence, VA 24348). A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
