She was predeceased by : her parents, George Smith and Bertha Lee Doughton Smith; her grandchildren, Anthony Carrico and Judy Billing; and her brother Garland Owens.

She is survived by : her children, Bertha Jean Day of Independence, VA, Barbara Marie Sutherland (Eddie), Emma Lou (Ricky E. Bobbitt), Carlene (J. C. Carrico), Kermit (Debbie Smith), Howard Smith of Lakeland, FL and Joseph Andrew (Katherine Poole); and her grandson Joseph Randolph Poole. She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren.
