She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, William Patton Coles, Jr. and Mary Vaden Coles; her sister Connie Whitehead; her partner Jerry Shedd of Java; her daughter Christie Reno Lowe; her siblings, Mary Meadows of Java, Becky Best of Virginia Beach, Linda Bailey of Virginia Beach, Delores Thurman of Roanoke and John Hurt Whitehead of Urbanna; her grandchildren, Cade Lowe and Cayla Lowe; her niece Kristen Thompson Smith (Justin); her nephew Brian Thompson of Java; her great-niece Riley Thompson; and her great-nephews, Brenden Smith and Easton Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that friends go out and sow some wildflowers or plant a tree in her memory.
