He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Carroll Wills Chewning and Vivienne Akers Chewning; his wife Virginia Harvey Chewning; his daughter Virginia Sue Chewning; his brother Dr. Richard C. Chewning; and his cousin Robert M Pinkham.
He is survived by: his children, Carol-Winter Allen (John) and Rush W. Chewning (Joanne); his grandsons, R. Wills Allen (Anna), Lee B. Allen (Bess), Joseph Wills Chewning and Robert Collier Chewning; his great grandchildren, Conrad, Robert, Vivienne, Charles, Jane Louise and David; and his pet Alfie.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 20th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Grace Episcopal Church (303 S Main St, Kilmarnock, VA 22482).
