He was predeceased by: his parents, Julian Hayes and Ola Acorn Hayes; his wife Dorothy "Jean" Hayes; and his brothers, Pete, Bill and Tommy.

He is survived by: his children, Mary Sorando (Paul) of Ashburn, Robert Hayes (MaryAnn) of Scottsdale, AZ, Thomas Hayes (Roxanne) of Eastham and James Hayes (Linda) of Freedom, ME. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
