She is survived by: her mother Cleita Thomas Carter; her sons, David Lee Kay Jr. and Andrew Allen Kay; her siblings, Patty Carter, Gregory Carter, Robin Kelley, Lisa Thomas and Roger Carter (David Kay Sr.); and her grandchildren, Charlotte, Kaya, Caroline, Kenshin and Thatcher.

A memorial service was held on Monday, October 27th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Jefferson Park Baptist Church (2505 Jefferson Park Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903). A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 28th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Burial Site (980 Walton Furnace Rd, Max Meadows, VA 24360).
