He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard H. Thayer and Mildred Marsh Thayer; and his wife Carolyn Taylor Thayer. He is survived by: his daughters, Kathleen Paup (Sam) of Monroe, VA, Debby Thayer (Mitch) of Tallassee, AL and Roxanne Spittle (Richard) of Meherrin, VA; his grandchildren, Andra Day (Chris) of Monroe, VA, Rebekah Martin (Brian) of Amherst, VA, Katy Murray (Bobby) of Monroe, VA, Matthew Gouldthorpe (Ashley) of Lowry, VA, Herb Gouldthorpe of Monroe, VA and Ben Owen of Meherrin, VA; and his close friend Valerie Compass of Lynchburg, VA.. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
