It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Joan Catherine Merrill of Lynchburg, Virginia, who passed away on June 25, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Chester Allen McClanahan, Sr. and F. Catherine McClanahan; her husband W. Leon Merrill; and her brother C. Allen McClanahan. She is survived by: her children, Michael Merrill (Jean), Sonya Ganjon, Jennifer Trent (Ronald) and Melanie Millner (Joseph); her siblings, Susan Welk, Henry McClanahan and Nancy Whitlock; and her grandchildren, Katie, Jason, Jessica, Gregory, Tiffany, Catherine, Travis, Christina, Sarah, Abigail and Cullen. She is also survived by 29 great grandchildren.
