She was predeceased by: her parents, Edgar Wesley Brown and Leora Grogan Brown; and her sister Sylvia Pond. She is survived by: her husband Dr. C. Frederick Smith; her children, Brian Frederick Smith (Beth), Karen Colleen Schmitt of Lynchburg, David Michael Smith (Melissa) of Richmond and Matthew John Barnes (Michele) of Lynchburg; her grandchildren, Cody Briggs (Kasey), Marissa Shaner (Landon), Seth Smith, Tucker Smith, Quinn Schmitt, Kalliope Smith, Seraphine Smith, Preston Barnes and Bennett Barnes; her great grandchildren, Lennon and Oakley Briggs; and her niece Cathy Durvin. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory (427 Graves Mill Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24502). A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church (2424 Rivermont Ave, Lynchburg, VA 24503). A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 at the Virginia Memorial Park (11490 Forest Rd, Forest, VA 24551).
