He was predeceased by: his parents, Helen Pettigrew Govan and Jack Keith Gwaltney, Sr.; his wife Sheila; and his children, April and Christopher Gwaltney.
He is survived by: his children, Michelle Gwaltney Jones of Virginia Beach, VA and Michael Gwaltney, Jr. of Queens, NY; his brother Jack Gwaltney, Jr.; and his nieces, Angel Hairston and Patricia Whitley. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 23rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Mt. Peeler Baptist Church (503 Stage Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24504).
