It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Roy Lee Saunders Sr. of Lynchburg, Virginia, born in Roanoke, Virginia, who passed away on November 29, 2022, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Pierce Eugene and Ethel Bussinger Saunders; and his siblings, Gene, Frank Saunders, Irene Lee, Virginia Governor, Ruth White, Dorothy Mae Saunders, Bettie Lindsey and Clara Bragg.

He is survived by: his wife Marion Wright Saunders; his children, Dr. Lee Saunders, Jr. (Pam) of Forest, Kakie Richards (Bob) of Lynchburg, Beth Saunders of Treasure Island, FL and Meg Kerr (Mike) of Asheville, NC; his grandchildren, Robert Richards, III (Laura), Nathan Richards (Sarah), Alexandra Mildrum (Connor), Laura Saunders, Pierce Saunders, Ian Saunders, Claire Kerr and Grace Kerr; his great grandchildren, Annaliese Richards, Marigold Richards and Lilah Richards; and his siblings-in-law, Evelyn Duncan Saunders and Wayne Wright (Pat). He is also survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678 or the Moose Lodge #1727, 934 Waterlick Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

I met Kakie in Kindergarten and was friends with her during our entire school years. The Saunders home was always filled with love and comfort and will always be a big party of my childhood memories. Mr. Saunders was a hard working, smart and joyful man who loved his family. May the treasured memories comfort loved ones during this time.”
