He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Nathanial Staples and Gladys Wright Staples; and his sisters, Joan Ashworth and Millicent Tolly. He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Blankenship Staples; his son Samuel Wayne "Chip" Staples, Jr. (Nicole); his sister Mary Lee Deal; and his grandchildren, Haden Staples, Riley Staples, Taylor Verbeke, Maddie Verbeke and Emma Verbeke. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
