He is survived by: his wife Naomi; his children, Dorothy Goodwin (Harry) and James Thomas; his grandchildren, Rena Johnson of Brooklyn, Nathan Newsome of Richmond, Latasha Johnson of Massachusetts, Sheila Johnson of Pennsylvania, Bray Johnson, Jr. and Jamie Thomas; his sisters-in-law, Sharon Jones (Ben), Rowena McDaniel, Pauline Rucker and Judy Waller; his daughter-in-law Jackie Johnson; and his nephew Carlton Rucker of Maryland. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
