He was predeceased by: his parents, Thornton Alex Phillips and Thelma Jones Phillips of Virginia; and his sisters, Mary Peters and Debbie Rosser. He is survived by: his spouse Merissa Miller Phillips; his children, Angelia Dickerson of Lynchburg, John Phillips (Carrie) of Spout Spring, Kristy Seamster of Amherst and Ashlee Elder of Fredericksburg; and his grandchildren, Thomas Seamster, Christopher Dickerson, Jr., Cheyenne Seamster, Haleigh Mitchell, Sterling Seamster, Ashlyn Seamster, Willow Phillips and Ava Phillips. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
