He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Carlile and Ina Frances Taylor Powell; his wife Ida Berger Powell; and his brothers, Cecil Carlile Powell II and John Wellington Powell.
He is survived by: his brother Thomas Purnell Powell (Nancy); his children, Susan Powell of Arlington, Mary Powell Vartain (Richard) of Annapolis and John Powell (Sarah) of Ruckersville; his grandchildren, Catherine Vartain Frilund (Henri), Lilly Vartain Williams (Jacob), Julie Vartain, Jesse Vartain, Michael Vartain, Madeline Powell, Lindsey Powell and Kenton Powell; and his great grandchildren, Sophia Williams and Matthew Williams.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 6th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Chapel of Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg (501 V. E. S. Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24503).
