She was predeceased by: her parents, Herbert C. Wood (Jack) and Flossie Elizabeth Banton Wood; her husband William Lafayette Coates (Bill); her son Randall Bryan Coates; her sons-in-law, J. Edward Freeman (Eddie) and George A. Wilson, Jr.; her siblings, Marvin Wood, Charlotte Wood, Ollie Mae Courington and Marion Wiles; her brothers-in-law, Melton "Tex" Courington, Benjamin Wiles and Percy Glover; and her half-brother Montague Wood.
She is survived by: her children, Sharon Freeman (Steve Horne), Pamela Wilson of Madison Heights and Timothy W. Coates (Terry) of Lynchburg; her daughter-in-law Tammy Pingley Coates of Madison Heights; her grandchildren, Tammy Brooks of Las Vegas, NV, Shannon Belangia of Newport News, Nicholle "Colley" Coates of Davenport, FL, Brittany Wilson of Madison Heights and Erin Coates of Lynchburg; her great grandchildren, Robbie and Olivia Belangia; her siblings, Herbert Wood (Peggy) of Madison Heights, Virginia Glover of Glade Spring and Mary Mitchell (Les) of Gladys; her sister-in-law Anna Wood of Johnson City, TN; her half-siblings, Billy Wood and Jane Williams of Arrington; and her aunt Betty Lee Goff. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
