With sadness, we share the passing of Herbert Duval Wood of Madison Heights, Virginia. Herbert, born on July 13, 1929, passed away on August 29, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert C. Wood (Jack) and Flossie Elizabeth Banton Wood; his siblings, Marvin Wood, Frances Coates, Charlotte Wood, Ollie May Courington and Marion Wiles; his brothers-in-law, William Coates (Bill), Melton Courington (Tex), Benjamin Wiles, Percy Glover and Leslie Mitchell (Les); and his half-siblings, Montague Wood and Jane Williams.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Moore Wood; his children, Cheryl Wood Hudnall (Roger) of Lynchburg and Dwayne Scott Wood (Jennifer) of Virginia Beach; his grandson Samuel Ryan Hudnall (Micaela) of Lynchburg; his sisters, Virginia Glover of Glade Spring and Mary Mitchell of Gladys; his sister-in-law Anna Wood of Johnson City, TN; and his half-brother William Wood (Billy) of Arrington. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, September 2nd 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Whitten Monelison Chapel (3966 S Amherst Hwy, Madison Heights, VA 24572).
