With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Lucy Virginia Coates Ruffner of Madison, Virginia, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 6, 2025. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Jesse Paul Ruffner; her grandson Joshua Avent; and her brothers, James William "Jim Bill" Coates, John Hale Coates and Frederick Ross Coates.
She is survived by: her children, Lucy Catherine "Kitty" Ruffner Avent and John Paul Ruffner (Colleen); her grandchildren, Bradley Avent (Esther), Stuart Bull (Matthew), Sally Bull (Michael Thompson), Philip Ruffner, Kirsten Ruffner (Ben De), Haley Ruffner and Preston Ruffner; her great grandchildren, Thomas Avent, Oliver Bull, Riley Bull, Leon De Los Reyes and Theodore Thompson; and her sisters, Catherine Hitt and Anna Boyd. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Virginia's memory to Mt. Nebo Lutheran Church in Madison or Trinity United Methodist Church in Catlett.
