He was predeceased by: his parents, Wiley Hawkins and Laura Hawkins; his in-laws, Bud and Ethel Ashby; and his siblings, Bill, Clay, Dean, Roger, Jack, Ruth, Evelyn and Linda.
He is survived by: his wife Norma Jean Hawkins; his sons, Michael Gates (Chrystle) and Richie Gates; his grandchildren, Abi, Xavier, Reese and AJ; and his sisters, Wanda Ashby (Gary) and Peggy Evans (Newman). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bradley's Funeral Home (938 N Main St, Marion, VA 24354). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 30th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
