He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Abel and Martha Childers Abel; and his siblings, James David Abel and Norma Lindsay. He is survived by: his son Jay Jenkins; his siblings, Elizabeth Abel, Fred W. Abel, Jr., Steve Abel, Karen Sadler, Darlene Abel and Gary Abel (Kathy Hall); and his grandchild Abrah Jenkins. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
