She was predeceased by: her parents, Otis Powell and Ethel Golliher Powell; her husband Joe W. Gillespie; her siblings, James Powell, Douglas Powell, Otis "Ditt" Powell, Randy Powell, Fred Powell, Clark Powell, Mae P. Tarter and Phyllis P. Lowman; her half-siblings, Jack Powell, Robert Powell and Kay Kegley; her sons-in-law, Jimmy Gardner and Bill Herndon; and her grandson David Herndon.
She is survived by: her daughters, Sandra Herndon Thomas (Cecil) of Sugar Grove, VA, Carol Gardner Zimoski (Terry) of Martinsville, VA and Beth Hamm (Eddie) of Marion, VA.; her grandchildren, Stacy Herndon, Tony Byrd of Glade Spring, VA, Jason Gardner (Julie) of Martinsville, VA, Brian Gardner of Martinsville, VA, Jeffrey Gardner of Manassas, VA and Joshua Hawk (Ashley) of Colorado Springs, CO.; her great grandchildren, Aros Herndon, Stevie Byrd, Justin Byrd, Zoey Gardner, Elyse Gardner, Landry Hawk, Brooks Hawk and Mabry Rose Hawk; her sister-in-law Kiyoko Powell; and her close friends, Connie Tilson and Mary Johnson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Bradley's Funeral Home (938 N Main St, Marion, VA 24354). A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 at the South Fork Cemetery.
