It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Darrell Drayton Gillespie of Martinsville, Virginia, who passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. Though his name may fade from the lips of time, the imprint Darrell leaves upon the hearts of his loved ones remains eternally vivid — a testament to the depth of his spirit and the richness of his legacy.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus Franklin Gillespie and Stella Jane Wade Gillespie; his wife Kay Frances Kane Gillespie; his brothers, Troy Gillespie, David Gillespie and Cecil Gillespie; and his close friend Linda Gibson.
He is survived by: his sister-in-law Peggy Gillespie; and his caregiver Jeannett Harris.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Evergreen Mausoleum (1307 Summit Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24015).
