He is survived by: his wife Ada Marie Jones Craighead; his children, Rita Gamble, Patsy Hairston (James), Rufus Craighead, Gary Craighead, Gene Craighead (Louandrea) and Timothy Craighead (Paula); and his siblings, Billy Craighead (Mary) of Penhook, James Craighead of Rocky Mount, Luster Craighead (Marie) of Martinsville, Virginia, Dora Witcher of Glade Hill and Sophie Campbell of Penhook, Virginia. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren.
