We bid farewell to Ruth Howell Prillaman (Martinsville, Virginia), whose journey of life gracefully concluded on January 19, 2026 at the age of 93. Ruth touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. She was predeceased by: her parents, Elmo Whitfield Howell and Antholene Plybon Howell; her husband Wythe Prillaman; her siblings, Ralph Howell, Elizabeth Stamper and Betty Mowen; her grandson Samuel Tristan Pilson; and her son-in-law Samuel Pilson.
She is survived by: her daughters, Antholene Renee Prillaman (Hugh Meriwether) and Shawn Prillaman McCraw (Mark McCraw); her grandchildren, Caitlin Meriwether Prillaman and Andrew Wythe Prillaman Meriwether (Larkin Johnson); and her sisters-in-law, Nancy Hale and Judy Hundley. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be made to the following: ● The Samuel and Tristan Pilson Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides a scholarship each year to a graduating senior at Bassett High School who demonstrates a commitment to service.
