With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Sam Atkins Jr. of Martinsville, Virginia, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on June 18, 2025 at the age of 88. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam A. Adkins and Ethel Tucker Adkins; and his siblings, Elba Adkins Wilkins, Gayle Adkins Compton, Mary Belle Adkins Newman, Ruth Adkins Dodson, Warren Atkins, Melvin Adkins, Reid Adkins, Harrison Adkins and Dean Adkins.
He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Loretta Braswell Atkins; his daughters, Linda Gail Handy and Jennifer Marie Crigger; and his grandchildren, Brandon W. Martin, Heather M. Thompson, Justin N. Gregory, Lia D. Handy, Lauren M. Grady, William J. Grady of London, K. M, Crigger of Kendra, M. D and Aiden A. Boaz. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
