She was predeceased by : her parents, Upsher, Sr. Rainier and Mary Lewis Rainier; her husband Garnett F. South; her siblings, Upsher Rainier, Jr., Melvin Rainier, Golden Dutton, Ruth Robins, Beulah Sadler, Lydia Rowe, Marilyn Morgan and Audrey Mitchem; and her granddaughter Heidi Jo South.

She is survived by : her sons, Michael G. South (Joan) and Dale F. South (Melanie); her grandchildren, Shannon Dean (Josh), Dawn South (Donald), Laura Brandon (Andy), Blair Jarrell (Casey) and Lance South; her great grandchildren, Riley, Zach, Ryder, Tessa Jo and Ella Mae; her sister Joyce Downs; her sister-in-law Florence Rainier; and her friend Diane Sadler. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Gwynn's Island Baptist Church (2011 Old Ferry Rd, Gwynn, VA 23066). A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Trinity Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Gwynn's Island Baptist Church, P.O. Box 26, Gwynn, Virginia 23066, and to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, 94 Cricket Hill Road, Hudgins, Virginia 23076.
