He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Porter Thomas and Eula Louise Morrison Thomas. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Layne Thomas; his siblings-in-law, Joan Hardin of Wytheville, Sue Coleman (Harold) of Piney and Mark Layne (Kaye) of Wytheville; his sibling's children, Jimmy Hardin (Mary) of LaCrosse, VA, Howie Coleman (Cyndi) of Piney, Jennifer Bailey (Chris) and Beth Ann Grizzle (Darrel); his great-nephew Jon Hardin (Lindsey); his great-nieces, JoBeth Hardin (Stuart), Ellie Grace Bailey, Madison Coleman and Lauren Snavely; his pet John Henry; Wayne, Iretta Umberger, Bobby, Elaine Akers, Dean Wright and Eddie Stoots.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 17th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the West End Cemetery West Lee (1985 W Lee Hwy, Wytheville, VA 24382).
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Doug's Honor to the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge 739 Painters Hill Road, Ivanhoe , VA 24350.
